I sponsor and support two very special girls at Sunrise Children’s Village in Cambodia. Meet Waew and Thy.
Both girls have terrible injuries sustained in vicious acid attacks requiring on-going medical assistance, reconstructive and plastic surgery.

About Waew
I met little Waew on my first visit to Sunrise in Phomn Pehn in September 2006. She had just arrived at Sunrise three weeks earlier and was thought to be about 10 yrs old.
She was rescued from the streets of Bangkok some time earlier and had been cared for and received some surgical help. She was found abandoned at the Cambodia - Thai boarder in 2006 - speaking Thai and not her native Khmer - which she now masters!
Waew’s situation is very tragic and sad. She had been traffiked by her parents to a Bangkok begging ring when she was very very young and has been burned with acid in order to gain bigger money from her begging. She suffered two attacks when she was very young. She as been terribly disfigured from these ACID BURNS and is blind in one eye.
She has already undergone signifcant plastic surgery to most of her face. She will need special care on so many levels for the rest of her life. She will need a new eye and ear.
Thankfully Waew is safe, happy and living a vibrant life at Sunrise. She is a positively smart, radiant, beautiful, heerful, popular girl with a wonderful sense of humour!

ABOUT THY
Thy arrived at Sunrise in November 2006. She and her Brother were orphaned when her mother was murdered in an Acid attack.
Thy’s mother was attacked by jealous woman in a crime of passion. She hired someone to throw acid over Thy’s mother while she was sleeping. THy was asleep next to her at the time. Her mother died as a result of the attack and Thy’s injuries are horrific.
She requires extensive plastic surgery, an eye and ear reconstruction and also private language tuition. Thy would like to be a nurse when she grows up.
Thy is a beautiful girl despite her injuries. She’s has a delightful nature and a cackle of a laugh that makes everyone around her smile. This bright, bubbly, sweet and intelligent girl who has such a positive attitude despite her scars and pain. She’s a very special child and we are very close friends.
