Opportunities to get involved

Connect & participate directly with people in need

I have chosen to support and promote the following projects because I have direct involvement with them.

These are all GRASS ROOTS projects – run by individuals who turn their talk and intentions in ACTION – stepping outside their own sphere of existance to help others in need.

Zulu Communications is proud to support all of these innitiatives and
thanks you for your participation and support.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO

Congo Canoe Challenge – December 2008

LHB and the CongoLucy Hobgood-Brown has been working with communities in the Congo her entire life.

In December, Lucy and her sister Anne will travel back to the Village of their birth – an 800Km, 17 hour journey up river in motorised dug-out canoe.

She is raising funds to help improve the delivery of health care in the village with basic needs like surgical instruments, bedpans, wheelchairs, fetal stethoscopes and solar panels that will power lights in the operating rooms.

Find out more about how you can donate and support Lucy’s Canoe Challenge in one of the most challenging, conflicted and remote countries – Click here

Lucy’s other projects in the Congo include:

  • Sewing machines and a sewing school
  • Prenatal Care and healthcare program
  • Education and health initiatives
  • Micro Business and community loan schemes

AUSTRALIA

Collection for Refugees in Wagga Wagga NSW and Zulu quilt raffle – SEPTEMBER 2008

Sarah Gillis from Aspire Australia is collecting good quality, clean and complete items – that would be so loved and appreciated by refugee settlers to Australia – who have been located to Wagga Wagga NSW.

  • Time to clear out your winter wardrobe in preparation for a great spring and summer?
  • Have your kids grown out of their books, toys & puzzles? Small puzzles (up to 100 pieces is good) with big and solid pieces, large blocks and large Leggo for the little babie (no games with small – itty bitty pieces). Picture books are best and story books that are simple work well. Click here to find out more

KENYA

Help the Buluma Family

Jordan Swartz has been inspired to start his own venture now to help a Kenyan family who were displace through the violent riots that rocked the captial Nairobi in 2007.

KenyaJordan’s update : May 25, 2008 – The family has been reunited in Nairobi. They are living in a much safer area now. The children are back in school, which is not an easy feat in Kenya, as everyone must pay for schooling. Had it not been for your generosity, schooling would not have been an option at this time because they lost everything during the riots. Thank you to everyone for helping to raise money for the Buluma family. Together we raised $8042. Your generosity will forever change their lives.

Please visit www.helpkenyanfamily.com for further information on Jordan’s project.
